FAQ

I am a Masseur, Healer and Hypnotherapist, with 20 years experience. I am based in Brighton and Hove, covering the Sussex coast from Lewes to Shoreham and Worthing.

I specialise in the diagnosis and treatment of problems in the back and neck.

I started Healing about 30 years ago, and also learned basic counselling and massage skills. In the 90’s, I trained professionally in Swedish Massage and in Shiatsu, and have been in practice since 1991.

For clients who require it, I offer a deeply relaxing Pregnancy Massage, and the powerful Lymphatic Drainage Massage.
I am also trained as a Hypnotherapist and as a Bereavement Counsellor; and most recently, I have trained to be an Interfaith Minister and Spiritual Counsellor.

Part of my work is in helping people to understand how their body works – and their mind, too. With better understanding, people become more able to take control of their lives, and make more positive choices for themselves.

Advice on diet, posture and nutrition can be very useful in addition to the therapeutic value of the massage treatment; Counselling, or calming Hypnosis proves even more helpful, for some people.

Often, just being ‘a good and faithful companion’ for people as they go through the ups and downs of life is as much help and support as any of the more ‘technical’ aspects of being a therapist. Just ‘being there’ as a genuinely caring human being is itself part of the antidote for today’s world of depersonalised ‘services’ and goals. Taking proper care of your body is an essential part of making your life work – not just today but in all the years of your life to come.

”Having someone like Robert in your life when you have the problems I have experienced is almost an essential item. Unfortunately it isn't always easy to find someone with the expertise that Robert has. He definitely has 'healing hands' combined with all the various techniques someone like me requires.
The combination of Deep Tissue Massage with Lymph massage, Shiatsu, Spinal healing and massage all make for a real opportunity to improve the quality of life for anyone suffering from neck, back, hip and/or leg problems. I unfortunately have a combination of all these problems to the point where I was virtually unable to walk.
I am now able to do so much more and much of the credit for this must go to the treatment I have received over the last few months from Robert.
Robert also has counselling skills which gives him the patience to deal with clients who have put up with a lot of pain and discomfort caused by their physical problems and disabilities. This winning combination provides all round treatment for his clients.
Thank you Robert” Sheena, ret.

FAQ
How far do I have to book in advance?
Often I have one or two free slots most days. Although I don't take calls when I'm with a client, I always check for messages as soon as I'm free; so if you're desperate for treatment its always worth texting me, even at really short notice.

So does what I tell you stay private?
Your enquiry will be answered in confidence, and as promptly as possible.
None of your details will be passed on to any third party.

If I have a massage, do I have to take everything off?
No, you just take off what you are comfortable with - as long as I can get to the places you need me to work on. Even in the 'noughties', I feel its important to keep your modesty and dignity.

Do you offer sex?
No, I'm a therapist, not a sex worker. A proffessional massage can be sensual and enjoyable, but is not sex. If that's what you want, please look elsewhere. (This is not just a disclaimer - I mean it)

Does it hurt?
Most people tell me that its almost a relief to find someone who CAN get into those tight places, and that the discomfort feels somehow satisfying. In order to release tight joints and muscles, I need to use enough 'oomph' to do the job for you, and it is fairly common for people to feel slightly stiff or sore the next day. Please text or email me if you're worried about this.

How many treatments will I need?
You'll really need to come and see me, before I can assess your condition and answer that for you. However, most common conditions improve after 2 -4 treatments, especially if you use the tips and exercises that I give out.

Can I pay by credit card?
Sorry, but I don't have that facility. Please bring cash or a cheque.

Are you insured, and have you ever had a claim against you?
Yes, I am fully insured, professionally; and no, in 20 years I have never had anyone make a claim against me.
